Institutional Determinants of Knowledge Management Effectiveness in Higher Education Institutions in Thailand

Abstract
This research aimed to 1) study the characteristics of higher education institutions that affect the effectiveness of knowledge management, and 2) study the management factors in higher education institutions that affect the effectiveness of knowledge management in Thailand. The research was quantitative, with a sample of 385 administrators or representatives from higher education institutions. Data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, including One-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that: 1) Regarding the characteristics of higher education institutions, most respondents were from the central region, had more than 100 personnel, and were mostly affiliated with public higher education institutions. 2) Regarding knowledge management factors in higher education institutions, leadership (support for knowledge management) had the highest mean score. 3) Regarding the effectiveness of knowledge management in higher education institutions in Thailand, knowledge creation had the highest mean score. 4) ANOVA analysis comparing the effectiveness of higher education institutions in Thailand categorized by institutional characteristics revealed no statistically significant differences at the .01 level across campus location, number of personnel (administrators and faculty members), and institutional affiliation type. 5) Analysis of knowledge management factors in higher education institutions that affect the effectiveness of knowledge management in higher education institutions in Thailand: Overall, 78.5% (Adjusted R2 = .785) showed no statistically significant difference at the .01 level. The factors of leadership (knowledge management support), knowledge management strategy, information technology, human resource management and incentive systems, and organizational culture significantly affected the effectiveness of knowledge management in higher education institutions in Thailand overall at the .01 statistical significance level. The factors of measurement and evaluation significantly affected the effectiveness of knowledge management in higher education institutions in Thailand overall at the .05 statistical significance level.
