Developing Reading Comprehension Skills of Grade 4 Students Using Cooperative Learning with LT Technique and 5W1H Questioning

Abstract

            This research aimed to develop reading comprehension skills of Grade 4 students using Learning Together (LT) cooperative learning techniques combined with 5W1H questioning methods. The study compared reading comprehension skills of Grade 4 students before and after using LT cooperative learning techniques combined with 5W1H questioning methods. The target group consisted of 10 Grade 4 students studying in the first semester of the academic year 2567 , purposively selected from students in the researcher's classroom who scored below 50% on the reading comprehension test. The research instruments included 8 lesson plans using LT cooperative learning techniques combined with 5W1H questioning methods, and a 30-item reading comprehension skills test. Statistical measures used were mean and standard deviation. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used for hypothesis testing. The development of reading comprehension skills in Grade 4 students using LT cooperative learning techniques combined with 5W1H questioning methods showed that after the instructional activities, students achieved an average reading comprehension score of 69.00%. The comparison of reading comprehension skills of Grade 4 students after using LT cooperative learning techniques combined with 5W1H questioning methods was significantly higher than before the intervention, with statistical significance at the .05 level.
