Educational Game Development to Enhance Critical Thinking Abilities in Social Studies, Religion, and Culture, Focusing on Economics Unit for Grade 6 Students at Ban Sao Hong School

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to develop educational games to enhance critical thinking abilities, to study the results of organizing educational game activities to enhance critical thinking abilities, and to study students' opinions on organizing educational game activities to enhance critical thinking abilities. The target population is Grade 6 students in the Social Studies subject Religion and Culture Economics learning unit, Ban Sao Hong School Kanchanaburi Province, totaling 23 people. The researcher used the method of research workshops, Single-group experiment measures pre-and post-test results. The instruments used in research are educational games, pre-class - post-class tests, critical thinking observation forms, and opinion assessment forms. Statistics used in research include mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics. The results of the research found that 1) develop educational games the efficiency value is equal to 80.87/81.52 which is according to the specified criteria of 80/80 2) The results of the comparison of academic achievement found that the students had a test score after studying 𝑥̅=15.83, SD=1.19 higher than the pre-test score 𝑥̅=11.74, SD=2.80, which calculated t value of 8.39 at a statistical significance of .01. From observing students' critical thinking towards learning with educational games, it was found that, overall, the student's critical thinking abilities were at a good level. The mean value was 2.45, and the standard deviation was 0.55. 3) Studying students' opinions on organizing game activities. It found that 85 percent of students were overall satisfied at a high level. 𝑥̅=4.27,SD=0.44.
