ENHANCING BUDDHIST ETHICS FOR INMATE CONTROLLING OF NAKHON RATCHASIMA CENTRAL PRISON

Abstract

This research aims to: 1) study the level of inmate control at Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison; 2) study the relationship between the Four Sublime States of Mind (Brahma Vihara 4) and inmate control at Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison; and 3) propose ways to enhance Buddhist ethics for inmate control at Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative research using a questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.954, a sample population of 100 people, and qualitative research through interviews with 9 key informants. The results showed that: 1. The overall level of inmate control at Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison is high. 2. The relationship between the Four Sublime States of Mind (Brahma Vihara 4) and inmate control at Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison was found to have a positive correlation with the ethics for inmate control. The level of correlation is moderate (R=0.763**), statistically significant at the 0.01 level, therefore the research hypothesis is accepted. 3. Strengthening Buddhist ethics for inmate control at Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison, based on the Four Sublime States of Mind (Brahma Vihara 4), focuses on enhancing physical security by using advanced search technology for prohibited items and vehicles, coupled with upgrading proactive intelligence systems to effectively prevent incidents and escapes. Control operations must be based on the Four Sublime States of Mind to create fairness, reduce tension, and use compassion as the foundation for inmate rehabilitation. Staff should receive adequate resources, personnel, and training to reduce workload and emotional fatigue, while management must create a transparent and impartial decision-making system based on the principle of equanimity (Upekkha) to build trust among all stakeholders.
