Monitoring and evaluation of research utilization funded by Research and Development Institute of Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University

Abstract

This research aimed to monitor and evaluate the utilization of research funded by the Research and Development Institute of Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University during the fiscal years 2018–2020. This research will serve as a guideline for determining new research funding allocation criteria to assess the value of the limited research budget and ensure that research findings can be utilized tangibly and in line with the university's mission of becoming a university for local development. This study utilized a documentary research methodology. The population consisted of 99 research projects, of which 92 projects were successfully closed on schedule. The research methodology utilized secondary data analysis from the university's database and record forms. The results revealed that academic research utilization was the highest at 89%, followed by community/social utilization at 8%, and commercial utilization at 3%. No policy utilization was observed. Most academic research dissemination occurred at the national level (70%), international dissemination at 13%, intellectual property rights claims at 2%, and knowledge sharing (KM) at 15%. These findings reflect that the university's research funding allocation remains primarily academic. Therefore, support strategies should be adjusted to increase commercial and policy utilization to support the transition to an innovative university in the next phase. This monitoring and evaluation result will enable universities to use empirical data to review and define research funding allocation criteria for maximum efficiency and value for local and national development
