Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of logistics infrastructure associated with the Dawei Deep-Sea Port and Industrial Estate Project across Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Nakhon Pathom provinces. It evaluates the suitability of these areas for industrial plant establishment through the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and analyzes industrial expansion trends using the Growth Pole Theory as the conceptual framework. The research employs spatial and inductive analytical methods, utilizing secondary data obtained from government agencies across seven key datasets: administrative boundaries, population density, industrial clusters, transportation networks, electricity supply, number of factories, and labor force availability. The Weighted Overlay Analysis technique was employed to assess the development potential of each province. The findings indicate that Kanchanaburi possesses strong potential to serve as a logistics hub, Ratchaburi functions as a supporting area for industrial production, and Nakhon Pathom is suitable for final product manufacturing and regional warehousing. The observed industrial expansion in the study areas can be characterized by three key trends: the decentralization of SMEs to peripheral areas, the transformation of land use from agricultural to industrial or commercial purposes, and labor migration into high-potential zones.
This research offers valuable insights for policymakers, particularly in industrial land use planning and sustainable regional development in western Thailand. It underscores the pivotal role of logistics infrastructure as a catalyst for spatial transformation and economic growth within the context of cross-border economic integration.
