Development and user satisfaction evaluation of a cultural tourism game prototype using gamification: A case study of Nan province
Keywords:

This research aims to: 1. develop a prototype game for cultural tourism that incorporates gamification, and 2. examine the satisfaction of target users with the game prototype, focusing on aspects such as gameplay, game mechanics, perception of cultural content, and interest in visiting real-world cultural tourism destinations. The development process applies findings from the analysis of player motivation, gaming behavior, and cultural data to the design and development of a partially playable game prototype, with graphics and gameplay systems designed to align with the identity of the study area. A mixed methods research approach was employed, including a review of related literature, data collection from domain experts, and surveys of the target user group. The research findings were applied to development a creative game prototype. The game was designed in an open-world format, the game allows players to explore the environment, complete missions, and engage with cultural content through gameplay. The prototype was then tested with the target users, and satisfaction data were collected based on their gameplay experience. The results indicate that players reported high to very high levels of satisfaction with gameplay, game systems, visual presentation, and the perception of cultural content embedded in the game. In addition, the findings suggest a positive tendency toward increased interest in visiting real-world cultural tourism sites. This research demonstrates the potential of applying gamification concepts to the development of prototype games for cultural tourism and provides a framework for the future development of digital media to support culture and the creative economy.
