The readiness and problems in employment for the quality of life of persons with disabilities among establishments in Phuket Province

Abstract

This research aims to explore the readiness, problems, and obstacles in employment practices affecting the quality of life of persons with disabilities within establishments in Phuket Province. This qualitative study was conducted under the pragmatic paradigm, focusing on empirical, practical outcomes. The key informants consisted of 20 human resource managers or supervisors from the Phuket personnel management association, reaching data saturation through homogeneous and convenience sampling. The research instrument utilized was a structured in-depth interview guide. The findings revealed that compensation is perceived as fair but insufficient for current living costs. Working conditions are ready in terms of providing safe facilities and health promotion. Opportunities for capacity development through training vary significantly by business size. Job security and career advancement are well-established in large enterprises, while small and medium enterprises still need to development these areas further to ensure that employees feel secure and have clear pathways for growth. Social integration and organizational culture regarding diversity are well-prepared. Organizational democracy and freedom of expression are primarily evident in large-scale businesses.  Work-life balance and flexibility are at a relatively good level of readiness. Social contribution is highly evident in large establishments, particularly through the implementation of universal design, which serves as a strategic factor in enhancing the competitive advantage of Phuket's tourism industry.
