Abstract

This conceptual paper, grounded in a review of pertinent literature, emphasizes strategic planning and the cultivation of change leadership within the framework of sustainable organizational development. The purpose of this paper is to clarify key ideas related to sustainability-driven strategic planning and to synthesize leadership characteristics that support the effective implementation of such strategies. It examines the connection between sustainability-driven strategic planning and the leadership development needed to effectively drive these strategies. The study highlights the role of leadership in driving change and the importance of fostering employee engagement to ensure sustainable transformation. Leaders must possess strategic thinking skills, the ability to inspire, and adaptability to rapidly changing environments. The analysis indicates that considering organizational diversity in terms of size and context is crucial in designing appropriate strategies and leadership development. The integration of sustainable strategic planning with change leadership development enables organizations to grow and operate effectively over the long term, not only by generating profits but also by considering the social and environmental impacts. Achieving a balance across economic, social, and environmental aspects is a key factor that ensures an organization’s operations are sustainable and its success is long-lasting.
