Scopes
Thai Man and Society Review (TMSR) is a multidisciplinary journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research across a broad spectrum of social science and related fields. The journal particularly welcomes submissions that address issues relevant to Thailand, including comparative studies between Thailand and other countries, and research that can inform policy and practice in the Thai context. We encourage submissions that explore the following key areas (but are not limited to):
1. Core Social Sciences: Research in sociology, anthropology, political science, and economics that advances understanding of social structures, institutions, inequality, labor, migration, family, and everyday practices. Both theoretical contributions and empirical studies that shed light on social processes in Thailand are welcome.
2. Public Policy, Governance, and Law: Studies of public administration, governance, decentralization, policy analysis, legal frameworks, human rights, and social protection. We particularly welcome policy-relevant research, program evaluations, and analyses of institutional reform that have implications for Thai governance and public welfare.
3. Culture, Media, Education, and Community Life: Research on culture, identity, media and communication, religion, arts, education, gender, and community development. Work addressing urban and regional dynamics, housing, social cohesion, and the cultural dimensions of social change is encouraged.
4. Health, Welfare, and Social Determinants: Studies on social determinants of health, health inequities, aging, disability, mental health, caregiving, and welfare policy that link social science perspectives to public health and social care in Thailand.
5. Technology, Aviation/Aerospace, Environment, and Development: Research on the social impacts of technology and digital transformation, including aviation and aerospace-related social issues; environmental justice, sustainability, and the social dimensions of development and resource governance.
6. Methods, Interdisciplinary, and Comparative Research: Methodological innovation, mixed-methods research, program evaluation, and interdisciplinary studies that integrate social science with other fields. Comparative and cross-national studies that offer lessons applicable to Thailand are especially welcome.
Submissions that bridge disciplines, employ rigorous methods, and translate findings into policy or practice to address pressing social challenges in Thailand and its regional/global connections are strongly encouraged.
Article Types
Thai Man and Society Review (TMSR) welcomes submissions of two main article types:
• Original Research Articles: Empirical studies that make an original and significant contribution to social science knowledge, theory, or practice. Submissions should articulate clear research questions or hypotheses, employ appropriate and rigorous methods (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, computational, case study, program evaluation, or policy analysis), present robust results, and discuss implications for theory, policy, and practice—particularly with relevance to Thailand and its regional or global connections.
• Comprehensive Review Articles: Critical, analytical syntheses of existing literature that map current knowledge, identify gaps, and offer forward-looking perspectives or theoretical advances. Accepted reviews include systematic reviews, meta-analyses, state-of-the-art reviews, and integrative or theoretical reviews that clarify debates and suggest research agendas or policy implications relevant to Thailand and beyond.
Publication Frequency
Thai Man and Society Review (TMSR) is published biannually, with two volumes per year:
• No. 1: January - June
• No. 2: July - December
While articles accepted within each period are scheduled for immediate online publication upon completion of the final production, the total number of articles per issue will be determined by the editorial team to maintain a balanced publication. This may include incorporating accepted articles received shortly after the timeframe or adjusting the order to ensure a consistent volume, with some articles possibly shifted to the subsequent issue for optimal fit.
Peer Review Process
Thai Man and Society Review (TMSR) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic rigor through a rigorous and transparent open peer review process. All submitted manuscripts undergo review by at least three suitably qualified experts in the relevant field. The review process is open, fostering constructive dialogue between authors and reviewers. Final publication decisions are made by the editors based on the thoroughness and quality of the reviews, ensuring that only the most impactful and scientifically sound research is published.
Languages
Thai Man and Society Review (TMSR) publishes articles in both Thai and English, aiming to serve both the local Thai research community and the broader international scientific community.
