Abstract

The objectives of this research report are to study the learning of the Threefold Training (Tri Sikkhā) in the Tipitaka Studies course, explore learning models, and identify problems and recommendations for improving the learning process of the Threefold Training in this course. This study employs a quantitative research approach, with a sample group consisting of 399 students selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments include open-ended questionnaires, and the statistical methods used for analysis include percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The research findings are as follows:

The study found that students’ overall learning of the Threefold Training in the Tipitaka Studies I course, across all five aspects, was at a high level. When considering each aspect individually, ranked in descending order of average score, the highest was Aspect 2 and Aspect 3, which pertain to instructional activities and instructor-related factors. These were followed by Aspect 4 (student-related factors) and Aspect 5 (environmental factors), all of which were evaluated at a high level.

The overall learning model, across all five aspects, was also at a high level. When ranked by average score from highest to lowest, the leading aspect was Aspect 3 (moral and ethical development), followed by Aspect 1 (knowledge) and Aspect 5 (wisdom), all of which were rated at a high level.

Identified challenges include outdated or overly difficult course content, a lack of case studies and group activities in instructional methods, insufficient student participation, inadequate self-development among instructors, students' lack of learning and analytical thinking skills, and an unsuitable learning environment, such as inadequate classrooms and audiovisual equipment. It is recommended that all components be modernized to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.
