Motivation on decision-making in continuing the undergraduate degree 2018 at the Mahasarakham University

Abstract

The objectives of this research aimed to examine and compare the motivations on decision-making in continuing the undergraduate
degree for the academic year 2018 at Mahasarakham University (TCAS 61), overall and classif ed by faculty. The samples included fresh
students in the academic year 2018 of Mahasarakham University. Sample sizing adopted the Krejcie and Morgan method and Stratified Random Sampling was used to select samples from among 660 populations, of which the derived samples were classif ed by faculty at the proportion prescribed. The instrument used was the 41-item 5-point Likert scale questionnaire with reliability of.94 and discrimination between .25 and .63. The statistics implemented for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and one-way analysis of variance (One-way ANOVA).
The results were as follows.
1. The motivation on decision-making in continuing the undergraduate degree for the academic year 2018 at the Mahasarakham
University (TCAS 61) overall was of the high level, was at high level in three areas; personal reasons, curriculum, and the institutional
reputation. The motivation was at the moderate level on two areas; cost and the infl uencers and media. The motivation in f ve areas
prioritized from maximum to minimum was as follows: personal reasons (gif.latex?\bar{x} =4.02, S.D.=.53), institutional reputation (gif.latex?\bar{x} =4.01, S.D.=.61), curriculum (gif.latex?\bar{x} =4.00, S.D.=.53), cost (gif.latex?\bar{x} =3.47, S.D.=.68) and infl uencers, and media (gif.latex?\bar{x} =3.38, S.D.=.78).
2. The respondents in the different faculties reported different motivations on decision-making in continuing the undergraduate degree, overall and in each different areas; including personal reasons, cost, curriculum, the institutional reputation, the infl uencers, and media.
