The Influence of TikTok on the Travel Decision-Making Process of Thai Generation Z
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to 1) examine the motivations that influence the travel decision-making process based on TikToker-generated content among Thai Generation Z tourists, and 2) investigate the overall travel decision-making process shaped by TikTokers within this demographic group. A sample size of 400 respondents was selected using convenience sampling, exceeding the minimum required sample of 384 to ensure data accuracy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. Hypotheses were tested using the F-test, and mean scores were interpreted according to predetermined criteria.
The results indicated that most respondents were female, aged between 22 and 24 years, with an average monthly income and expenditure ranging from 10,001 to 20,000 Baht. Their primary motivations for travel included learning about local culture based on personal interests and a preference for solo travel. Motivations influencing travel decisions were rated at a high level (mean = 3.92). Similarly, the overall travel decision-making process influenced by TikTokers was also rated high (mean = 3.97), with the highest-rated item indicating that tourists were likely to decide to travel immediately after watching a TikToker’s video. Multiple regression analysis revealed that four motivational factors significantly influenced the travel decision-making process at the 0.01 level of significance: TikToker credibility, number of followers or popularity, a friendly and approachable public image, and the knowledge or in-depth information presented. These four variables collectively explained 77.5% of the variance in travel decision-making (R² = 0.775).
