The development of professional standards for sports coaches involves establishing the characteristics and qualifications of individuals who have undergone training to ensure they possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional attitude to perform their duties effectively. The National Strategy and Department of Physical Education, responsible for developing personnel in physical education, health, sports, recreation, sports science, and related fields, along with Maslow’s theory of self-development, which emphasizes the hierarchical process of human needs, have focused on promoting and developing quality leaders with adequate standards. The process of developing professional standards began with collaboration from academic institutions and expert consultants. The Institute for the Development of Physical Education and Sports Personnel has created curricula, training materials, and manuals, as well as organized training sessions for sports coaches, referees, sports managers, and recreation leaders. This aims to produce a sufficient number of capable personnel across all regions of Thailand. Emphasizing the development of quality sports personnel in line with professional standards, the Department of Physical Education has established professional standards, including curricula, evaluation criteria, and assessment tools. Those who meet the standards and pass evaluations are qualified to practice their profession, thereby enhancing the quality of physical education and sports professions. The development of professional standards for various sports, such as volleyball, basketball, handball, and woodball, will elevate the quality and standards of sports professions in Thailand, leading to a higher standard of sports development in the future.
