The Development of Fine Motor Skills in Early Childhood through Drawing and Coloring Activities

Abstract

The purpose of this research was: 1) to develop the fine motor skills of preschool children using drawing and coloring activities, and 2) to compare the fine motor skill abilities of preschool children who participated in the drawing and coloring activities. The sample consisted of 28 preschool children, both male and female, aged 3 years, who were studying in Kindergarten 1/1, first semester of the academic year 2024, at Wat Thung Lad Ya School "Lad Ya Wittaya," selected through purposive sampling. The research tools used included a lesson plan for the drawing and coloring activities and a test to assess the fine motor skill abilities of preschool children.

The research findings revealed that: 1) The fine motor skill abilities of the Kindergarten 1/1 students before the drawing and coloring activity were at a moderate level. After participating in the drawing and coloring activities, the students' fine motor skills improved to a high level. 2) The fine motor skill abilities of the Kindergarten 1/1 students after the drawing and coloring activities showed an increase in skill levels for every student.
