Personnel Development in the Perception of Mahasarakham University’s Personnel

Mahasarakham University (MSU) is considered as a large organization. Accordingly, it may lead ineffective personnel development
(PD). PD focused typically on the big group rather than considering individual development based on their roles and responsibilities. This research aimed to study and compare opinions including suggestions of staffs on PD of MSU. The suggestions and opinion were collected using questionnaires from 820 respondents consisting of 125 university administrators, 291 academic staffs and 331 supporting staffs. These numbers were statistically calculated using proportional stratified random sample method. Statistical analysis was employed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). As for the results, it was indicated that 1) university administrators and supporting staffs agreed with PD at moderate level. The academic staffs were satisfed with good level. 2) University administrators with different ages, sexes, academic degrees and affliated agencies showed
significantly different perceptions (.05) in several aspects. Academic staffs with different working periods had a statistically signifcant
difference (.05) in every aspect. In contrast with supporting staffs, their opinions were statistically significant different (.05) in all aspects when ages, sexes, academic degrees, working period, and affliated agencies were different. 3) Suggestions on PD of university administrators were 1) budget should be allocated more on academic, training and field visit as necessary. It includes adequate and appropriate promotion and support to academic paper presentations in international conference with terms and conditions beneficial to the university.
