Evaluating efficiency of new student registration process at undergraduate level in Mahasarakham University

A process of student registration is the f rst academic activity
that undergraduate students at Mahasarakham University have to
participate by following steps in a process with duration assigned by
the University. This research aimed to 1) evaluate the processing
of new undergraduate student registration, 2) compare attitudes of
the students from different programs towards the prof ciency of the
registration process, 3) compare the attitudes of the staff with different
working experiences towards the proficiency of the registration process,
and 4) study the guidelines for developing the process of the f rst-year
undergraduate student registration process at Mahasarakham University.
Research samples consisted of 359 first-year undergraduate students
who registered in the academic year of 2017 and 92 officers who
performed their duty during the registration process. Research
instruments were two questionnaires ; the student questionnaire had
discriminating values that ranged between 0.29 to 0.70 with an overall
reliability value of 0.93, and the staff questionnaire had discriminating
values that ranged between 0.30 to 0.78 with an overall reliability value
of 0.90. Statistics used for analyzing the data were per cent, mean,
standard deviation and Analysis of Variance (One-way ANOVA). The
results were as follows. 1) The first-year students and the staff agreed
with the efficiency the first-year undergraduate student registration
process overall and by each aspect at a high level. 2) The students
from different programs did not agree with the efficiency the first-year undergraduate student registration process (p >.05). 3). The staff with
different working experiences agreed with the efficiency. the first-year
undergraduate student registration process at Mahasarakham University
differently. 4) Strong points of the process were reported as cheerful
staff with pleasant talks and adequate communication. An aspect
mentioned for improvement was a need for more parking space and
traffic arrangement.
In conclusion, the f rst-year undergraduate student registration
process at Mahasarakham University is highly efficient. This information
could imply that the university, faculties, department and concerned
parties had planned and acted by following the steps and processes.
The practice could facilitate the students and their parents systematically.
Thus, the point for improvement was referred by the Registration and
Evaluation Department that has a primary responsibility to the relevant
bodies for developing betterment in the first-year undergraduate student
registration process at Mahasarakham University to serve satisfactory
to the students and their parents.
