Analysis of Changes in Tourism Destination in Thailand by Decomposition of Changes Tourism Revenues

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the changes of destination preferences from major tourism provinces to second-tier tourism provinces of tourism by employed the decomposition of tourism revenue method to identify the sources of changes in Thailand's tourism revenue during 2010 to 2023. The result concludes that changes in Thailand's tourism revenue have changed in the same direction as changes in the number of visitors, which is the most important factor affecting changes in tourism revenue. The continuous increase in per-visit spending is a factor supporting the increasing of tourism revenue annually. Regarding the effects of changes in destination selection behavior towards second-tier tourism provinces, there are not significant impacts. Policy recommendations include (1) the necessity for continued and serious implementation of tourism promotion measures in second-tier tourism provinces, (2) enhancing the capacity and readiness of secondary in second-tier tourism provinces, and (3) creating attractions in in second-tier tourism provinces to attract visitors.
