Abstract

This article has the purpose Baptism or the sacrament of Penance is one of the sacred rites of Christianity. This is a very important rite. It is a ceremony for welcoming new believers into Christianity. All Christians believe that all humans are born sinful. Baptism will help remove sin and become innocent. Because Christianity is a religion of goodness and purity, anyone who wants to convert to Christianity must first undergo the sacrament of baptism. This ceremony is performed by a priest. He pours water over the head and says, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." This ceremony can be performed only once in a lifetime. After baptism, that person is a fully fledged Christian.

Baptism is a Christian tradition that has been practiced since ancient times. It is believed to wash away all sins within a person. When a person undergoes baptism, they become pure and become a complete member of the Christian religion. This baptism can only be performed once in a lifetime. A priest performs the baptism and sets the date for the ceremony. The baptism is symbolized by water. The priest pours water over the person's head and recites a prayer: "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." Baptism can be performed by both children and adults. It can be said that baptism is like the front door that allows us to enter the rooms within the home.

The prayer used for baptism varies from Christian denomination to Christianity, but the most popular prayer is the one from the Gospel of St. Matthew, referring to the Trinity: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This means: I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This is an external sign of faith, demonstrating that it is a cleansing or erasing of original sin through the salvation of Jesus Christ.

After receiving the sacrament of baptism, those who are baptized must adhere to the Ten Commandments, which are universal Christian principles. They must also be compassionate and kind to others, such as loving their neighbor, giving alms, helping society, and having a heart that is loyal to their religion. They must also behave in a way that is appropriate for a good Christian. When a baptized person behaves in this way, they are considered to respect Jesus Christ, and life in this world will be a good life.
