The Process of Preventing and Solving Drug Problems with Buddhist Principles in Educational Institutions

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the process of preventing and addressing drug problems using Buddhist principles in educational institutions. The integration of Buddhist principles enables families, educational institutions, and all relevant agencies to jointly prevent and address these issues. People who are young or addicted to drugs can find safety in the Four Divine Abodes, which are loving-kindness (metta), compassion (karuna), sympathetic joy (mudita), and equanimity (upekkha). They can also find safety in the Four Bases of Social Welfare, which are generosity (dana), kind speech (piyavaca), good behavior (atthacariya), and impartiality (samanatta). By incorporating these principles into their own practices, they can contribute to the sustainable resolution of issues faced by youth and drug addicts, provided that all sectors collaborate, with the family institution serving as the primary foundation for prevention and resolution.
